Alec Baldwin’s western Rust “will never be finished”, a crew member predicted after Alec Baldwin accidentally shot Halyna Hutchins, a cinematographer on set.
“None of us expected this movie to be completed.” The Sun, after Thursday’s tragedy, was informed by an unnamed worker. “We know that this is the end for Rust, unfortunately.”
‘Maybe way down the line it will get picked up again but right now, there’s no way it’s going to continue getting made. The movie will be dedicated, if possible, to Halyna.
The source told The Sun that the film couldn’t go on without director Joel Souza, 48, who is still recovering from his injuries after he, too, was shot.
‘Not only is our director still fighting for his life, but there will be lawsuits I’m sure and a lot of other factors that will prevent this movie from ever being finished.’
Alec Baldwin (pictured), the shooter of the fatal shot, will likely face criminal charges in upcoming lawsuits. However, the person who loaded the gun will most likely face criminal charges
‘Maybe way down the line it will get picked up again but right now, there’s no way it’s going to continue getting made. The movie will be dedicated to Halyna if it ever happens by miracle. [Hutchins](pictured)” A crewmember described the film, which was stopped indefinitely when the cinematographer was fatally shot in his chest by a gun that was not meant to be loaded with live bullets.
Experts told DailyMail.com earlier this week that guns containing live ammo are never used in filming and it is not clear why a loaded gun was present on the set. Pictured is Alec Baldwin, who weeps on-set after the tragedy.
Rust was made with a $7 million budget. This is tiny by Hollywood standards. A superhero movie can run upwards of $300,000,000.
The production was hit with walkouts amid mistreatment of staff and will forever be associated the tragic death on set. This could potentially put people off seeing it even though it was completed.
Baldwin is the star, and the terrible tragedy that has swept the film set likely makes it difficult for anyone else to see Baldwin on-screen. It’s hard to imagine what might happen if the movie miraculously makes it to theaters.
Experts predict that the movie’s insurance company may refuse to pay if safety protocols aren’t followed correctly, potentially ruining its financial backers.
The Crow, a 1993 film in which Brandon Lee was shot to death while filming, was finished and became a financial success.
Lee had already completed most of his scenes before filming began, so he wasn’t killed or shot by the star.
Experts stated earlier this week that guns with live ammunition are not used in filming. It is also unclear why a loaded firearm was found on set. While Alec Baldwin will likely be named as the shooter in the upcoming lawsuits. However, the gun’s owner will face the most serious criminal charges.
TMZ revealed on Saturday that the Colt pistol had been used recreationally by crew members for target practice. Sources claim that crew members would practice target shooting with real bullets. Some believe that a live cartridge from these sessions made its way into the gun on set.
Another source claimed that live ammunition and blanks were being stored in a similar area on set. This may have been another explanation for why a bullet was fired from Baldwin’s Colt.
Alec Baldwin was holding a Colt pistol from the past when it accidentally went off. It is not known who loaded the weapon and why it went off as a replacement crew was brought in the day of the incident (The gun pictured above is a vintage Colt pistol manufactured between 1873-92. Although it is not known which gun model was used, Rust is believed to have been made in the 1880s.
Baldwin was filming a scene in an Old West-style church. He apparently pointed at the camera and pulled the trigger. This accidentally killed Halyna Hutchins (pictured), and injured Souza, who stood beside him.
A search warrant released Friday said that Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 24, had laid out three prop guns on a cart outside the filming location, and first assistant director Dave Halls grabbed the Colt from the cart and brought it inside to Baldwin, unaware that it was loaded with live rounds.
“Cold gun!” Halls shouted before handing the gun to Baldwin. Halls shouted “Cold gun!” Before handing the gun to Baldwin. This phrase was used to signal the crew and cast that the gun was safe to be fired for the scene, the warrant stated.

After working with Dave Halls on a previous production on Hulu called Into the Dark in 2019, Maggie Goll, a prop maker and pyrotechnician, made complaints against him.
Goll claimed in a statement to CNN that Halls had never addressed weapon safety protocols in production meetings, or when a firearm was to go on the set.
Typically, any weapon being used on a set – real or fake – must be ‘introduced’ to the cast and the crew so that they are aware of its presence, and can follow other safety protocols. Goll stated that Halls failed to follow these safety guidelines.
Goll stated in the statement that ‘The only reason crew was made aware of a weapon was because the assistant propmaster demanded Dave acknowledge the situation and announce it each day.

She also said that Halls would be disciplined by the prop master if she did not acknowledge the protocol.
Goll also claimed that Halls told her to be ‘watchful’ for him by another crew member, as they were known to get touchy about Halls. Hutchins may have lost his life because of his on-set behavior.
Two production sources who worked with GutierrezReed previously said that this was not her first incident on a movie set.
Two sources informed The Daily Beast that Hannah Gutierrez–Reed allegedly gave an 11-year old actress a gun, without properly inspecting it, while she was filming The Old Way with Nicholas Cage.
One source said that she loaded the blanks a couple of times and did it in a way that was unsafe.
“She was a little careless with guns, waving it around every so often.”
On Thursday, Halyna Hutchin was accidentally pierced by the colt pistol.
Sources on the Rust set have said the fatal incident that killed Hutchins, 42, and injured Souza, 48, was a result of production failings from top to bottom.
They also stated that Baldwin was handed the gun by Halls, the assistant director, and that he had told him it was safe.
One source on set stated that ‘He’s supposed be our last line and he failed us’. “He’s not supposed to be looking at that firearm.”
A Rust production source informed The Daily Beast that there had been at least two instances in which guns were accidentally discharged on set by other crew members before Thursday’s tragic accident.
GutierrezReed was described as ‘inexperienced’ and ‘green’ by the source.
GutierrezReed had previously admitted that she wasn’t ready for The Old Way when she interviewed before filming began.
Hannah Gutierrez Reed said, “I almost didn’t accept the job because it wasn’t clear if I was ready but doing it, everything went really smoothly,” after she had led the firearms department for The Old Way starring Nicolas Cage. This was her first time as head armourer.
In the podcast interview, she also stated that she found loading blanks into a gun the scariest thing. This was because she didn’t know how it worked and had sought help form her father, Thell Reed (respected gunsmith) to overcome the fear.
Sources on the set of Rust said the incident that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins could be tied to the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed
The film crew has just revealed that they left the set hours before the fatal accident because of safety concerns. Three firearms were accidentally discharged, including one by Baldwin’s stunt double, who was told the gun wasn’t loaded. It also happened twice in a closed-cabin.
Neither Halls, nor Gutierrez–Reed immediately responded to messages from DailyMail.com on Friday night. Despite the ongoing police investigation, neither Halls nor Gutierrez-Reed have been charged or named as criminal suspects in the case.
DailyMail.com exclusively revealed that the gun that fired off the fatal shot was a Colt revolver in vintage style.
After the shooting, the armorer claimed the gun and the spent casing. These were turned over to the police along with other prop guns, ammunition, and ammunition.
Baldwin also took off the Western costume he was currently wearing, which was stained with blood and gave it to police.
The warrant does not identify the model or caliber, but the film was shot in the Old West of 1880s. DailyMail.com has learned that it was a Colt.
Anatoly Androsovych, Hutchins’ father, told the Sun that he still couldn’t believe Halyna’s death and that her mother is racked with grief. ‘But I don’t hold Alec Baldwin responsible — it is the responsibility of the props people who handle the guns’
Friday’s warrant was obtained so investigators could document the scene at Ranch where the shooting occurred.
Unionized workers had left the set hours prior to the fatal shooting after complaining about long hours and poor conditions.
According to a source, the prop master was a non-union worker who was ‘just hired’ to replace workers who had left due to safety concerns.
It is not clear if Gutierrez-Reed was a recent addition to the production or if he was one of the crew members who remained behind after the walkoff.
However, her Instagram bio links to an article about Rust dating back to May. This suggests that she was involved in the production for some time.
According to sources cited by The Los Angeles Times as well as multiple social media posts by TV and film insiders, unionized workers had complained about having to stay in Albuquerque for the night.
They were surprised to discover that they had been replaced by locals when they arrived to clear their stuff on Thursday.
It raises the question of who were these local workers, what their training was, and how did they check the weapon prior to it being handed to Baldwin.
Deadline also cites an anonymous source who claimed that a gun had been set off “in a cabin” while someone was holding it, days before the shooting that killed Hutchins.
“A gun had two misfires inside a closed cabin. They just fired loud pops – a person was just holding it in their hands and it went off,’ they said, apparently referring to unintentional discharges.
Rust Production LLC didn’t respond to DailyMail.com’s repeated requests for comment on Friday regarding the incident. However, members of the union representing many of the crew involved in the production stated that they had expressed concerns about safety on-set.
Baldwin first spoke out on Twitter Friday, saying: “There are no words that can express my shock and sadness at the tragic accident that claimed the life of Halyna HUTCHINS, a wife and mother, and deeply respected colleague of ours. I am fully cooperating with police to investigate how this tragedy occurred. I am in touch and offering my support for her husband and his family. My heart is broken for her husband and their son, as well as all who loved Halyna.
He then tweeted a Variety article titled Alec Baldwin was Told Prop gun Was Safe Before Fatal shooting, Affidavit states.
After speaking with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department about the shooting, he was shown looking in pain on Thursday.
Hutchins husband shared a touching tribute for his wife on Twitter Friday. Matthew Hutchins shared a photo on Friday of his wife and their 9 year-old son Andros. It was captioned: “Halyna inspired all of us with her passion and vision. Her legacy is too meaningful for words to capture.
‘Our loss is enormous, and we ask that the media please respect my family’s privacy as we process our grief. We are grateful to everyone who shared images and stories about her life.
His Facebook profile picture shows a photo of his 16-year-old wife. His bio now reads: “We miss your, Halyna.”
Anatoly Androsovych was Hutchins’ father and he laid the blame on the killing of the films armory team on Sunday.
“We still can’t believe Halyna is dead and her mother is going out of her mind with grief,’ Anatoly told the Sun on Sunday.
‘But I don’t hold Alec Baldwin responsible — it is the responsibility of the props people who handle the guns.’
‘[Halyna’s son] has been very badly affected — he is lost without his mother.’
Anatoly is currently trying organize visas to allow his wife Olga to enter the US with his daughter Svetlana. This will enable Halyna to support Matthew and Andros, who are just 9 years old.
ShowBiz411 reported that a private memorial was held last night in Santa Fe with Baldwin, Andros, Matthew and Andros in attendance. ShowBiz411 reported that there were grief counselors at the service.
DailyMail.com’s husband, who was in shock, said that he had spoken to the actor on Friday morning. Alec Baldwin has been supportive of my family, he stated.
Zak Knight is a pyrotechnic engineer and special effects specialist who is a member at Local 44. He said that there should not have been any live rounds on a movie-set set.
“Number 2” is that every person on a movie set can inspect a weapon before it’s fired. Number three is that there is no reason for anyone to ever be in direct contact with a weapon that is firing.
“A barrel pointed down the lens of a movie should be seen without an operator. It is obvious that this gun was pointed directly at two people.
“We would have added a barrier between them. He said that a large number of people did not follow our protocols… each accident is a series of events.
Knight said that whatever happened during the time leading up to her death was caused by a “cascade of failures” by multiple people. “We have a firm rule that no live ammunition should ever be loaded into a prop truck, or set at any given time. It’s just not possible.
Knight claimed that whatever happened in the hours leading to her death, it was due to a ‘cascade failures’ by many people. “We have a strict rule that no live ammunition is ever allowed to go into a prop truck or set at anytime. It’s just not what we do. Pictured are New Mexico residents and members of the local film community grieving the loss Halyna Hutchins.
“If you see bullets set up, they are dummy rounds and in no way functional. This is Brandon Lee. There is protocol. Lee was shot with a prop pistol loaded with live ammunition by another actor while filming The Crow in 1993.
Knight said that there may have been differences in gun laws between New Mexico State and California. California’s film sets require both a trained armourer and a prop master. These are the same standards the union follows.
Los Angeles is home to some of the most highly-trained and skilled people in the country. He said that it is impossible to guarantee this as you travel across the country.
