According to its creators, a smart collar that looks like an Apple Watch for dogs can track their heart rate when it hits the market in summer.
Invoxia GPS tracking company has created the smart collar. The device will be doubled as a GPS/activity tracker and it is anticipated to go on sale for $99
The previous generation of dog trackers used a combination GPS and an accelerometer. But the new one uses artificial intelligence.
The Invoxia team, based in Issy les Moulineaux, France, used radar sensors that use light to send signals into, and receive data back, from the skin of the dog.
Together with vet cardiologists, they trained AI to gather and process data from the sensors.
Developers claim that a smart collar similar to the Apple Watch for dogs can track their heart rate, among other vital signs, when it is on sale this summer.
Smart Dog Collar, a connected collar that connects to dogs and will be launched in the summer of 2022.
Invoxia CEO Amélie Caudron said there is a radar that faces the neck and sends a radio signal, that will then not be reflected by the hair.
Caudron stated to The Verge, “So it doesn’t matter what fur or hair you have, it’ll reflect by the first skin layer.”
“So, the radar will be able to determine the speed and motion of the skin under the collar.”
The artificial intelligence algorithm uses the movements under the collar to determine the heart rate, and the respiratory rate.
Unlike smart watches on humans, which have to be tight to work, collar has been designed to sit comfortably around the dog’s neck, according to Invoxia.
According to the firm, it already has 4 years worth of data from its GPS Pet Tracker and it will be using that information in the new collar for improved performance.
It can track the daily activity of the dog and determine when it’s walking, barking, chewing, eating or drinking. It also can see when the dog is sleeping.
It comes with a fabric cover that can be removed to make cleaning easier, especially for those times when the dog is playing in the mud.

“The Smart Dog Collar can continuously monitor the heartbeat and respiration rate of your dog through thick fur thanks to its innovative embedded Artificial Intelligence” and first ever application of next-generation sensors, said the firm.
“It is able to detect various behaviours and habits, based on million of data points from pet activity. Contextual intelligence allows it to use the best geolocation technology based on its surroundings.
This first version of smart collars will concentrate on your dog’s baseline statistics, and not constantly monitor its vitals in relation to others.

According to the company, there isn’t sufficient data to compare and track each dog breed. However, they are open to adding this function as data becomes available.
According to the company, monitoring vital signs in a dog’s body could prove useful after surgery, to help monitor its response to medications, and to check on older dogs suffering from heart or breathing issues.
This could be used to alert owners of potential problems and help them get the problem addressed quickly.
The laser technology is too small to be useful for smaller dogs. This version will only work with medium or large dogs.
