Jes Staley, the boss of Barclays, announced his resignation with immediate effect. The bank’s board stated that it was “disappointed” by the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) report into Jeffrey Epstein’s links to him.
Although the bank stated that it was made aware of the preliminary findings on Friday evening, it did not provide any further details.
Mr Staley stated that he will contest the findings. The bank also pointed out that there were no findings that Mr Epstein was aware or saw in the investigation.
From today, he will be replaced by Mr C S Venkatakrishnan who is the bank’s head for global markets.
