Borussia Dortmund fans may not be too encouraged by Sebastian Kehl’s comments about Erling Hailands long-term future this Week.
Dortmund’s head coach of first-team soccer was quizzed about whether Haaland would remain in Germany after the current 2021-22 season. He has been approached by Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain.
And Kehl tried to reassure supporters Haaland is going nowhere by announcing how much he’d bet on the Norway international staying – a paltry €100, which is far from an assuring figure considering the amount of cash swirling around in football.
The future of Borussia Dortmund for Erling Haaland has been under scrutiny for a long time
Dortmund’s Sebastian Kehl said he’d bet ‘€100’ on Haaland staying beyond this season
Kehl stated that he was trying to give him the impression that Borussia Dortmund remains a top address and that he can still grow here.
“Maybe, we can still convince Him. We will fight for him. We will try everything. The decision has not yet been made, but I would bet €100 [on him staying]?.
The 21-year-old has a release clause in the region of £64m that kicks in next summer – a perfectly reasonable price for major clubs to pay for someone with the ability he has.
Haaland, who joined Dortmund in January 2020 from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, has been a Dortmund player ever since. However, his unstoppable scoring form has kept him linked to Europe’s elite sides.
Haaland has scored 18 goals in his 13 appearances for country and club so far this season
He has scored 18 goals this season in just 13 appearances for club or country, but he is currently sidelined with a hip injury.
“It is too early for us to know when he will return, but we hope he plays again this year,” Dortmund’s director Michael Zorc stated Saturday.
Dortmund, which are currently second in the Bundesliga standings, and just one point behind leaders Bayern Munich can’t wait for him to return.
