Brandon Lee’s family took to Twitter Thursday to express their grief at the shooting incident on the Alec Baldwin film Rust, New Mexico. Baldwin fired a prop gun that killed Halyna Hutchins, the director of photography, and injured Joel Souza.

“Our hearts go to the family Halyna Hutchins, Joel Souza, and all involved in Rust,” read a tweet sent by the account’s sister Sharon Lee. ‘No one should ever die from a gun on a set of film. It’s that simple.

Lee, the son and martial-arts icon Bruce Lee’s father, died on March 31, 1993, while filming The Crow in North Carolina. After another actor shot a prop gun that was believed to be loaded with blanks at him, Lee was struck fatally with a.44 caliber slug.

The latest: Brandon Lee’s family took to Twitter Thursday to express their grief at the death of Halyna Hutchins, director of photography, and the injury to Joel Souza, director of Alec Baldwin’s film Rust in New Mexico. 

Investigators later discovered that a tip from a dummy cartridge was lodged in the gun. It hit the actor when it was time to shoot the blank.

In Thursday’s tragedy at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s officials confirmed the death of Hutchins, 42, who had been taken to University of New Mexico Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Officials confirmed that Souza (48) is still receiving treatment at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center.

Baldwin, 68, was seen crying outside the sheriff’s office, according to The Santa Fe New Mexican. Santa Fe County sheriff’s office spokesman Juan Ríos told the publication that Baldwin willingly spoke with investigators and gave them a statement.

Ríos told the paper, ‘We’re treating this as we would any other investigation.’

One user shared that he remembered thinking of Brandon Lee immediately and that it was a terrible situation.
