‘Catman’ murder trial halted because defendant keeps meowing: An Israeli who changed his name to an Anagram of Adolf Hitler sounds 55 times during Argentinian listening

After making a 55-times meowing sound during the hearing, an alleged double murderer was removed from a courtroom in Argentina.

After answering questions from the judge, Israeli Nicolas Gil Pereg was brought down to his cells. He had been charged with the murders of his aunt and mother.

Pereg, who once changed his surname to Adolf Hitler or Floda Reltih, also used the cat sound to answer questions about his name and ID number.   

After the suspect refused to remain silent, armed police took him away.

The bodies of Pereg and Saroussy were found under rocks and earth four feet below the ground. 

Pereg, who could face life in prison if convicted during his trial, pronounced the word “Meow” 55 consecutive times between the moment that he entered the courtroom, according to local reports. 

In his opening address to court on Tuesday, Fernando Guzzo, the prosecutor, blasted Pereg’s defence claims that Pereg is mentally unfit for trial and said to the six-man jury: ‘I ask the jury members not to let their guard down and bark louder.

Maximiliano, Pereg’s defence lawyer, asked them to behave like humans and not bark like canines as the prosecutor suggested.

Pereg, who is said to have lycanthropy, a medical disorder that makes him believe he’s an animal, was removed from the courtroom in Argentina for making cat sounds.

He displayed the same behavior during a hearing that his defense team organized in February 2020 to try to avoid a remand and get him admitted at hospital.

A senior prosecutor stated that he didn’t see any reason why he should go to a hospital psychiatric unit.

Pereg is said to have meowed like a cat and stripped off his clothes. He also urinated in front magistrates during past court hearings.

His alleged victims vanished shortly after he reached Mendoza on January 11, 2019, and went to Pereg’s house, where he shared it with 37 cats as well as four dogs, to spend the day.

The search for them lasted over a fortnight. It began when the alleged killer reported them missing.

Pereg’s aunt was shot and his mother had been beaten to death, according to post-mortems.
