At 1,131ft high, ‘Edge’ is the highest outdoor skydeck in the Western Hemisphere. It’s located on the 100th Floor of New York’s supertall “30 Hudson Yards” skyscraper.

It has a glass-floor.

Visitors now have the opportunity to enjoy an even more intense experience at top of tower: the chance to climb over Edge to the summit, and look out over the side, 1,271ft (387m).

Billed as the highest external building climb in the world, the exhilarating experience is called ‘City Climb’.

Although it’s not yet open, the tower filmed volunteers using it for a promotional video clip that made them sweaty and palm-inducing. We see them climbing up the side by side of the skyscraper using a vertiginous staircase. Then, they lean back, while being securely harnessed, right out to the side.

The public will be able follow their footsteps starting November 9th.

Before they begin the thrilling ascent, they will be given a ‘comprehensive Safety Briefing’ and fitted with’specially designed safety harnesses.

City Climb guides will then secure them into the climbing route using two cables attached to a trolley, which will ‘seamlessly move with the climber throughout the entire journey’.

The adventure begins and ‘unparalleled New York City views’ are revealed.

The climbers begin by ascending 32 steps to a viewing platform at 1,190 feet. From there, they climb ‘The Stair’ – a 161-step staircase built into the side of the skyscraper that’s at a calf-burning 45-degree incline.

The top of this staircase will give you the ultimate adrenalin rush. Guests advance to ‘The Apex’, the platform at the very peak of the tower. There, they’ll have the chance to lean out and dangle over the platform, the Big Apple skyline stretching out behind them.

After completing the climb, visitors can do a ‘victory lap’ of Edge – taking in more staggering views from 1,131ft (345m) in the air through the glass floor and walls, and from the observation deck’s ‘skyline steps’.

For a toast to the experience, a glass of Champagne is also recommended.
