As the Danish royals welcomed huntsmen at an annual event held at their lodge in 18 century, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark was leading them.
For the Hubertus Hunt, the mother-of-4, 49-year-old was joined by her twins, Princess Josephine, and Prince Vincent, 10 years old, at Hermitage Castle in Copenhagen.
Danish monarchs were on hand to meet tens to thousands of viewers who turned out to witness the 13-kilometre cross country horse race that marks the close of Denmark’s hunting season.
As they passed in the horse-drawn carriage, the trio waved at the spectators before climbing up to the balcony and watching the race.
As Princess Mary was seen with Prince Vincent, Princess Josephine smiled at the crowds and waved.
Hubertus Hunt, an annual cross-country horse race that takes place in Deer Park near Klampenborg (north of Copenhagen), is held every November.

The event dates back to the 1900s. It marks the end for the Danish hunting season. 160 hunters ride on horses over the hedges and other water features in the park.
The hunt was once an actual one, but the stags and the fox have now been replaced with a route for riders and horses wearing red jackets. There are two lead riders who wear a foxtail on their shoulders.
After the passing of Prince Henrik, Princess Mary was made patron of Hubertus Hunt’s Honorary Prize.
She was all smiles when she presented the Hubertus Chain to Frederikke, who won it, in front of Hermitage Castle.
Mother, who shared Prince Christian and Princess Isabella with Crown Prince Frederik, was dressed in a black tailored coat and a grey hat.

The Hubertus Hunt requires that riders complete 8 of the current year’s hunts to be qualified. This will ensure they can jump high obstacles.
May Britt Kattrup, the winner of the Hubertus Hunt in 1992, told Danish Radio: ‘The horses are often turned on in the surroundings with many horses and the large audience, therefore it is important to be able to control his horse, but it is the rider’s own responsibility to be qualified for the task.’
The tradition of Danish annual hunts has caused controversy for the Danish royals.
On the day of their annual hunt, 2019, they were seen standing in front of a large number of deer.
Prince Frederik of Denmark hosted the ‘King’s Hunt’, leading an entourage of prominent guests and other members of the royal family through the Gludsted Plantation in central Jutland.
The hunt was over, so the Prince, Princess Mary, Queen Margrethe and their guests gathered outside Fredensborg Palace to perform a traditional hunting parade.

The Hubertus Hunt requires that riders complete 8 of the current year’s hunts to be qualified. They must also have the ability to jump over the high hurdles.

While Princess Mary was seen hugging Prince Vincent from the balcony, Princess Josephine smiling and waving to the crowds smiled.

The event featured the Prince walking among rows of deer slaughtered and the Queen shaking hands.
A Danish law gives the exclusive right for the Danish royal family to hunt in approximately one-third of Denmark’s forests.
The ceremony includes a traditional reading of the yield from the hunt, which is followed by a toast.
Every year, official royal hunting takes place in Denmark’s state forests during the hunting season. This runs from October through January.
After the abdication or death of his mother, Princess Mary will be made Queen of Denmark by Frederik.
