EXCLUSIVE – An 80 year old ex-ballet dancer is being tased by armed police officers. They broke into his London house at 7am to search for a suspect of black descent in his 30s

  • EXCUSIVE: Roy Morton, 80, from Cricklewood, was tasered by London police
  • Former ballet dancer claimed that police had fired the stun guns in a mixup.
  • In fact, they had intended to invade the house of another man in their 30s
  • Another man was accused of having a weapon and attacking a female.

After he allegedly mixed up his address and that of a black man in his 30s, armed police took him to his kitchen.

Roy Morton – who suffers from a heart condition – was woken by officers who smashed through his front door, fired the stun gun, pinned him down and handcuffed him.

Later, the police informed the father-of-two, now working in television and film, that they intended to raid the residence of another suspect who was accused of attacking a female with a firearm.

Morton claimed he was at risk of being killed by the 50,000-volt weapon in the raid last Tuesday on Morton’s Cricklewood home. Cressida, Scotland Yard’s commissioner, was condemned by Morton for his mix-up. He said that it had chilling echos of Jean Charles De Menezes’ 2005 death.

Dame Cressida was responsible for the execution of the tragic operation where the innocent electrician, mistakenly believed to be a terrorist, was shot on the Tube.

Morton described to the Daily Mail the moment that the armed police entered his home at 7:01 AM.

“A minimum of four officers in full-dress with machine guns, were shining brightly in my face and shouting at me something unintelligible. I was given no directions.

The electricity started zipping when one of the guys suddenly fired at me with a Taser. I felt it hit my stomach and on top of my leg, and fell to the ground in the kitchen.

“Then, they leapt on me, kneeling down on my back, pinning me to the tiled flooring, turning my arms backwards and handcuffing and saying that I was being held for affray.”

He described his state of shock and confusion, and officers watched as he got dressed to go to the bathroom before removing him. Mr Morton – who was fitted with a pacemaker 25 years ago for a condition called heart block – said he was taken to the Royal Free Hospital in north London after the arrest to have the device examined.

Later, he was transferred to Colindale Police Station with a filthy police van. He was then told all about the mix up.

Mr Morton said he could have been killed by the 50,000-volt weapon during the raid on his four-bedroom home in Cricklewood, north-west London, last Tuesday. Pictured: Mr Morton on tour in Barcelona as a ballet dancer

He said that he was informed by officers who searched my house that they were looking for an older 6 foot black man, aged 30 and living in a flat. “I’m white. I am 80 years old. I’m also 5’8” and live in a home. I wasn’t a danger to anybody… I could have died.

“What kind of training did they provide these people?” They could not justify using such an instrument on a senior in his home.

Mr Morton was eventually told he would be taken back home – almost 12 hours after he was arrested.

While he stated that the officers quickly realized a mistake, he still has not received an apology.

He was also given a bill of £55 to fix the doors at his home – but estimates the total cost of repairs could come to £3,000.

The man now plans to file for forceful damages.

According to a spokesperson for Scotland Yard, the matter was referred by the watchdog police.
