David had a heart attack during a match of charity football in France, May 2016. He said that he was ‘clinically dead for nine minutes’.

He fell during the match and swallowed his tongue. Paramedics revived him after he had stopped breathing.

After being shocked four more times, he was airlifted into a Monaco hospital where he underwent a 6-hour quadruple bypass procedure to open his blocked arteries.

David spoke on This Morning November 2018, to discuss the lack of first-aid professionals, and how CPR played a crucial role in saving his own life.

The terrifying incident was described by him as: “I was playing football and just fell.” There’s no warnings or alarms, no pain. It was like I had just fallen to the ground. This is very odd because when you awaken, there’s no pain. So you wonder: “Why are you here?”

He stressed the importance of CPR and stated that anyone on the pitch could perform it. It was probably fifteen people present, but only one or two of them could perform CPR.

“That’s when it hit me that something wasn’t right. Two people were able to do CPR?”
