Gareth Southgate, England manager is said to be on verge of signing a 2-year extension of his contract that would allow him to lead the Three Lions into Euro 2024.

According to The Telegraph, Southgate’s improved deal with the Football Association could see the 51-year-old pocket a further £5million in bonuses, including a £2m pay rise if he wins next year’s World Cup.

That pay rise would see Southgate match former England boss Fabio Capello’s record-breaking salary of £6m-per-year when he was in charge of the national team from 2007-2012.

The former Middlesbrough boss has been in negotiations over recent weeks with FA technical director John McDermott, and confidence is high that an announcement can be made soon. FA refused to comment.

Southgate seems to be focused on his immediate task, which is to qualify for the next World Cup. This is before any extension announcements.

If they win their two qualifying matches, which begin tonight at Wembley against Albania, then they can accomplish this feat. Next up, they will face San Marino’s minnows on Monday.
