Billionaire oil heiress Ivy Getty tied the knot in a lavish wedding in San Francisco this weekend, where fellow San Francisco native and current Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi was on hand to officiate the ceremony — and that was just the tip of the A-list wedding weekend iceberg.
The 26-yearold married Tobias “Toby” Engel, a photographer at San Francisco City Hall. in a custom John Galliano gown, surrounded by family members and friends including actress Anya Taylor-Joy.
In a new inteview with Vogue, Ivy has shared the incredible details of her multi-day nuptial celebrations, includng a British Invasion Mod Party at The Palace of Fine Arts on Thursday night with a DJ set by Mark Ronson and a performance by Earth Wind & Fire — to which she wore not one but three vintage designer dresses, by Emanuel Ungaro, Emilio Pucci, and Norman Norell.
That was followed by a picnic lunch on Friday, where she donned an Alexander McQueen gown, and a rehearsal dinner on Friday night.
Finally, on Saturday, November 6, she donned her besoke Galliano gown — covered in glittering mirror fragments — and recited vows in the historic Beaux-Arts City Hall building, where Pelosi pronounced them husband and wife.
Their marriage was celebrated with a party at Ivy’s home, Getty Mansion, and included yet another costume change for Ivy, performances by Pena Pachamama dancers, and several bars and buffets of food.

The main event on Saturday night embraced San Francisco, the city where Ivy grew up — not just with the locale, but with a guest list that included Governor Gavin Newson and Mayor London Breed.
Pictures show City Hall’s majestic Rotunda with its colorful Persian and teal rugs, grand staircase and purple chairs. There are also huge urns filled with pastel roses and thousands upon thousands of pink Dendrobiam orchids.
The cost to hire City Hall on a Saturday evening for your wedding is $10,000.
According to Vogue, the bridesmaids — 13 in all, including Taylor-Joy — wore Maison Martin Margiela Haute Couture by John Galliano dresses, and flower girls donned butterlfy wings.
The bride — who is the great-granddaughter of oil tycoon Jean Paul Getty and granddaughter of Gordon Peter Getty — had her makeup was done by Renny Vasquez, her hair by Bobby Eliot, and her nails — decorated with little butterflies — done by Mo Qin.
She also wore a dress by Galliano, which was made up of a a corset the color of Ivy’s skin tone, which was padded at the hips to make her waist look smaller. The tulle was covered and then the dress was topped off with a mirror fragment dress, wired together as jewelry.
Before Pelosi arrived, attendees were required to remove their masks. She officiated as the groom recited his own vows and their dog, Blue Naomi Getty — a rescue she named after Blue Ivy Carter and Naomi Campbell, who wore a Christian Cohen x Max Cohen sweater — brought the rings.
So SF! On Saturday, Ivy was able to celebrate San Francisco as the main event. Not just because of the location, but also with an impressive guest list, including Mayor London Breed and Governor Gavin Newson.

The City Hall Rotunda is photographed with pink Persian and colorful teal Persian rugs that run down its grand staircase. It also features purple-draped chairs, huge urns containing pastel roses and thousands upon thousands of dendrobiam orchids.
For a weekend night wedding, the cost of renting City Hall starts at $10,000. This does not include security fees, music, caterers, costs, etc.

Wedding guests — who also included Princess Olympia of Greece, Ivy’s cousin Nats Getty, her aunt Vanessa Getty, designer Wes Gordon, designer Mimi Wade, fashion editor Hamish Bowles, British TV host Fletcher Cowan, and filmmaker (and Kiernan Shipka’s boyfriend) Christian Coppola — then traveled via cars and shuttles to the home where Ivy grew up, Getty Mansion.
There, they partied surrounded by incredibly pricey decor and artwork, including paintings by Matisse and Degas, Russian chandeliers, and ‘museum-quality’ European antiques, according to Vogue.
Ivy explained that she knew when my dear grandmother died I wanted the wedding to be held in her house. “My grandmother insisted on designing every room within the house, which makes me feel that she is with me. It would feel like I could look in every room and find something that reminded me of her. You can feel her presence in the home. My entire wedding theme is my grandmother’s house.
Ivy — now wearing another Maison Margiela outfit — went on to dance the night away, cut the cake with her husband, and toast her guests.
‘It was exciting to see the collision of rather grand San Francisco society and all the couple’s contemporaries — beautiful, free spirited rebels being their authentic selves in that amazingly operatic setting,’ Hamish Bowles told Vogue. They were all charming, engaging and engaging. The future was bright!
He noted also that the section didn’t finish until 1 in the morning.
In lieu of gift giving, the guests were encouraged to give to charities such as Best Friends Animal Society.

This dress features a corset that matches Ivy’s skin color. It was also padded at the hips so her waist looks smaller.

Ivy loved her dress after spending months planning it with the designer.
‘My grandmother always wore John Galliano’s designs,’ Ivy told Vogue. “My grandmother admired him always so it felt like she was right there with me through all this.”
Her grandmother likely would have worn Galliano’s designs for Givenchy, which he helmed from 1995 to 1996, and Christian Dior, which he became creative director of in October 1996. He was ousted from Dior in 2011 after video surfaced of him going on a drunken antisemitic tirade in Paris, saying ‘I love Hitler.’
Getty stated that Galliano’s design appeal was a key factor in her decision.
‘After my grandmother’s passing — she was really more like a mother to me — I felt this connection to John. He was the one I chose to make my dress. His friend connected me to my aunt Vanessa who is very dear to me. And here we are.
Ivy shared that they met over Zoom in the midst of the pandemic.
Ivy said that they just “understood each other.” Ivy says that despite knowing his designs well and growing up with them, it felt as if I knew him. However, this experience has allowed me to discover a different side of him.
‘My grandmother always wore John Galliano’s designs,’ Ivy told Vogue. “My grandmother always loved him, so it was as if they were there during this whole thing.”

“The whole experience was extremely personal which enabled us to connect even more. It was all about the feelings [that came along with]It was a joy to create my wedding gown. I still find it hard to believe that this is the last time.
Ivy was involved in the design process, putting together a mood board at Galliano’s request — but she insisted he should do whatever he wanted.
“I believed in Galliano, his creativity and had full faith in them,” she said. She said that she knew she was safe.
She did, however, look at her mood board as inspiration. He also paid tribute to her father and grandfather, who died in 2020.
He first included walnuts. Ivy put them on her moodboard because her grandmother grew up on a walnut farm. Ivy’s dad was a musician, so he also added guitars.
‘Not physically having two of the most important people in my life with me on my wedding day is extremely hard, but through John’s vision and creativity, he was easily able to bring their presence to life,’ Ivy said.
Galliano made fun of elephants during the design process, and Ivy was keen to include images of them in her veil.
Ivy received three fittings for the dress, one in LA and then another in Paris. She then went to London with her bridesmaids.
Each fitting was like a dream. It was a reality in my life. I had to keep reminding myself of this, she stated.
This newlywed was the daughter of John Gilbert Getty who, in November 2020, died from a fatal fentanyl overdose and heart complications. She also happens to be the great-granddaughter oil tycoon Jean Paul Getty.

There were many hair- and beauty services for the gorgeous bride
Louboutin heels were added to the wedding, as was her sapphire engagement band. She got it when her husband proposed on a three day trip to Capri. Toby and her husband had chosen a restaurant with a private dining room, where they proposed just as the sun was beginning to set.
Toby’s grandfather had given Toby his ring. He modified it to add Ivys grandmothers’ diamonds.
Ivy stated that the piece is unique and very personal to her. ‘I can’t help but smile every time I look down and see it!’
While Saturday’s main event was the wedding, the weekend was full of entertainment for the guests. On Thursday, the theme party was ’60s themed. Guests showed up wearing loud prints and bright tights as well as platform shoes.
For the wedding, there were three looks available. To start, she wore a vintage Emanuel Ungaro sleeveless dress, which belonged her grandmother. She paired it with diamond and coral earrings by Stephen Russell. Toby, on the other hand, was wearing Ivy’s father’s glasses.
She then changed into a vintage Emilio Pucci dress and D’Accori shoes, followed by a customized vintage Norman Norell from Happy Isles in L.A.
Anya, Queen’s Gambit’s star, wore a mini-dress with an Andy Warhol Campbell’s soup container design sequined by Andy Warhol and accessorized it with white go to boots.

She commented, “My baby daughter got married yesterday”, It has been a great privilege to be with you over the years, and being your maid of honor for so many years was a true blessing. I am so PROUD of the woman you’ve become. If you’re ever in any doubt- I have loved you and will love you, forever.
This party featured a DJ Mark Ronson’s performance and was very groovy. Earth Wind & Fire took the stage. Photographs show the elaborately decorated and viewed outdoor roof deck with views of the city.
“Mod night to remember, 3 outfit changes later!” Ivy posted the following Instagram photo.
For those who partied a bit too hard, IV drips were avialable at lunch at the Log Cabin on Presidio the next day, where the bride picked a McQueen gown from the v collection and teamed it with Christian Louboutin sandals, Stephen Russell antique earrings, Chloe sunglasses, and a clutch by Olympia Le Tan.
Pre-wedding events included rehearsals at the city hall, a Quince dinner and then the day of the wedding saw a pajama night and getting ready for the bride and groom.
There was also a party either before or after the wedding, where guests were dressed in ’60s inspired outfits

The rest of her friends followed in her footsteps, wearing loudly printed dresses, bright tights and platforms shoes.
It is not known if the after-party took place at the venue or if it was on Friday.

Ivy previously celebrated her engagement with a bachelorette party weekend at the Jackie O’ beach club in Mykonos in August.
This socialite was a big believer in the bridal theme. She wore a white babydoll gown with puffy sleeves and went on a Medditerranean trip with her bridesmaids.
“Thank you Vanessa Getty,” she said on Instagram. ‘@Jackieomykonos, thank you for being my favorite place ever and letting me dance on stage the whole night,’ she added in a shout out to the venue.

As the night went on, it appears that Ivy’s fiancé joined her for the celebrations at the beach club. During the celebration, they were seen snuggling up together while singing.
Paradise Bay, on the Greek island of Greece is home to Jackie O Beach Club. This club hosts events and drag shows throughout the year.
