Critics question whether cancel culture is dead after Dave Chappelle, a Grammy Award nominee, was criticized for comments he made about transgender people during his Netflix special The Closer.

The Grammy nominations come just one month after Chappelle faced calls to be cancelled over jokes made in a stand-up special for Netflix called The Closer, which was almost entirely centered around members of the LGBTQ community.

He caused controversy by his jokes, in which he claimed that gender is a fact and complained about the thin skin of trans people.

These jokes are based on J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter author. She had previously observed that transgender females weren’t actually women and were a threat her identity.

In previous Netflix specials, Chappelle was also accused of transphobia.

His Grammy nomination goes to the Netflix Special, 8:46 in the Best Spoken Word Album category.

While I don’t accept any kind of demands, I will meet with you only if I agree to certain conditions .

“First, you must have watched the entire special. Then, come at the time and place I choose. And finally, admit it: Hannah Gadsby doesn’t make a good joke.

“Am I cancelled? Now let’s move! Chappelle exclaimed at the end.

Marilyn Manson, Louis C.K. and others were nominated. Both have been accused sexually harassing women and have been nominated.

Manson, along with DaBaby, was nominated Album of The Year for Kanye’s album Donda.

Manson, 52 years old, was accused of sexual assault by more than twelve women nine months prior, which included Evan Rachel Wood and Esme Bianco (Game of Thrones actress).

Bianco filed suit against Manson in April alleging that he had abused her since 2007.

The artist – real name Brian Hugh Warner – has denied all of the allegations, claiming his relationships were ‘entirely consensual.’

He quietly married his longtime girlfriend, photographer Lindsay Usich, in the fall of 2020.

Phoebe Bridgers made headlines when she claimed that she visited Manson as a teenager. He referred to one area in the house as “the rape bedroom”.

Another victim claimed he had a small, soundproof glass enclosure called the Bad Girls’ Room in his West Hollywood apartment that he used to lock up women he was dating. According to the victims, he claimed that the room was used as a psychological torture cell and solitary confinement.

Academy nominated Louis C.K.’s Sincerely Louis for Best Comedy Album, despite the sexual misconduct allegations against the comedian – which he previously admitted were true.

In 2017, Louis C.K. was accused of inappropriate sexual behavior by five women in a New York Times expose.

A day later, after these women had come forward, he issued a statement in which he said: ‘I want you to address the stories of five women named Abby (Rebecca, Dana and Julia) who were able to identify themselves.

These stories are real. At the time, I said to myself that what I did was okay because I never showed a woman my d*** without asking first, which is also true.

‘But what I learned later in life, too late, is that when you have power over another person, asking them to look at your d*** isn’t a question. It’s a predicament for them.’

As a comedian, his reputation seems to have improved in the past few years. He did get a standing ovation during a 2019 show.

‘Louis C.K., Dave Chappelle, Kanye, DaBaby, and Marilyn Manson all nominated for Grammys today. Still waiting for “Cancel Culture” to be real,’ Jilliam Sederholm tweeted.

Some people expressed dismay at the Academy.

‘Marilyn Manson, Louis CK were each nominated today for Grammies. Moira Doonegan stated that she kept a list of every award and job given to males who were publicly accused of sexual abuse. However, it became too lengthy and corrosive for her soul.

The Grammy nominations this year are more jokey than ever. The fact that Louis C.K., Marilyn Manson, and DaBaby have all been nominated speaks volumes about how A) the #MeToo movement is not being taken seriously, and B) cancel culture doesn’t exist,’ said user @aidan_whatman.

‘Oh, that’s fun, Kayne West secured fresh nominations for Chris Brown, Marilyn Manson, and DaBaby! Oh, no, that’s not what I meant. They’re all terrible people and the Grammys are terrible,’ @maxrbever stated.
