“Off camera, I never broke. I stayed with my wife. I struggled to speak with a blonde accent. I had to dye my hair immediately and began to notice where and when money could be seen.

“I also started taking photographs. I don’t know if Patrizia was a photograph, but I think it was an exercise and I found her interests in photography, so I took my point and shoot camera everywhere I went.

‘I noticed that Patrizia was fond of beautiful things. I would delete something that was not beautiful. I was fascinated with her journey.

After learning Gaga was set to play her in the biopic, Patrizia Gucci né Reggiani, told an Italian journalist: ‘I am quite annoyed by the fact that Lady Gaga is playing me in the new Ridley Scott film without even having the foresight and sensitivity to come and meet me.’

The film, which documents Reggiani’s plot to murder her husband, is based upon Sara Gay Forden’s novel The House of Gucci.

Reggiani, nicknamed the ‘Black Widow’, was found guilty of paying a hit man €300,000 (£240,000) to murder 46–year–old Maurizio Gucci, an heir to the fashion empire, in 1995.

He had previously left her for another woman ten years before telling her he was going to a short business trip.

She was also furious that her ex-husband had begun seeing other women and feared for her $170 million inheritance if he remarried after ordering the hit.

Drama: Reggiani eventually hired hitman Benedetto Ceraulo, a debt-ridden pizzeria owner who shot Gucci dead on the steps of his office in Milan

Drama: Reggiani eventually hired Benetto Ceraulo, the hitman of a debt-ridden pizzeria proprietor who shot Gucci to death on the steps at his Milan office.

The court heard that she also wanted more than $650,000 she was offered in a divorce settlement.

Reggiani hired Benedetto Celaulo as a hitman. A debt-ridden pizzeria owner shot Gucci to death on the steps at his Milan office. Ceraulo was found guilty and sentenced for life in prison.

After Pina Auriemma, her confidante and clairvoyant, turned informant and told police about the plot, she was convicted.

Reggiani arrived at the murder trial in Italy each day in head-to-toe Gucci clothes, and accessories.

After receiving $650,000 from her husband in a divorce settlement, she had made it clear that she had ordered her husband’s murder.

In 1998, she was sentenced to 29 years. However, this was reduced to 26 after an appeal. She served 18 – with her pet ferret Bambi as a companion for some of the time – before being released in October 2014.

Reggiani is well-known for her luxurious lifestyle. She once said that she would rather cry in a Rolls than be happy riding a bicycle. She also declined day release while in prison, as it would have required doing’menial work’.

In 2017 a court ruled Reggiani was entitled to receive £900,000 a year from her ex-husband’s fortune.

Maurizio Gucci, the grandson Guccio Gucci and founder of Guccio Gucci fashion company with the double G logo, was the grandfather of Maurizio Gucci.

It was plagued by problems in the early 1990s and he sold it for $120million, two years before his death.

The new film is expected to be released on November 24th, 2021.

The full feature is available in British Vogue’s December issue. It is digitally downloadable and available on newsstands starting Friday November 5.
