A student doctored images of two former schoolfriends before uploading them to an X-rated website, a court has heard.

James Devenport was 25 years old and had known his victims for a while, but had lost touch with them in more than 10 year.

However, the shocked women found out that the photos had been edited and posted on adult sites.

For legal reasons, the victims could not be identified. They repeatedly requested that photographs of them be removed. However, they were uploaded again.

A string of degrading sexual comments were made by an unknown user via Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Another Twitter account created an image of the victim and links to her other profiles.

Devenport was identified by his IP address following a porn site’s disclosure of his details.

Officers arrived at the home of Carmunnock in Glasgow and he stated that he would tell them because they will find out. That was me. It was me.

James Devenport, 25 (pictured), was close friends with his victims. However, they had lost touch over the past 10 years. The women were shocked to learn that they had received altered photos of their bodies from an anonymous profile on social media and found them on adult websites.

An investigation of his house revealed nine pictures showing child sex abuse that were stored on a hard-drive.

Devenport of Belfast was present at Hamilton Sheriff Court. He admitted that he had posted indecent images of the women online as well as communicating inappropriately with them during January and December of last year.

In November 2020, he also confessed to possessing indecent photographs of children.

Abby Seal, depute fiscal said that the first witness received an Instagram message from “Petefakeman”. The picture contained an undated photo of her as a 14-year-old. It was unavailable on any other active social media accounts.

She told her friend, who suggested she do a Google “reverse” search to track where the original image came from.

“She located the image that was uploaded to the pornography web site many times. The image had also been modified in an inappropriate manner.

“She reached out to the web administration asking for the removal of the images as quickly as possible, in January.

“In February, the witness received information from her partner that the indecently edited image was again uploaded to the pornographic site multiple times.”

“In February 2020, a new account was opened on a pornographic site with the profile photo of the second witness aged 18, which was altered in an inappropriate manner.

“She didn’t reply to any messages she received and blocked John Goffey, the only user who was known as her.”

“Both accounts had been accessed using the same IP address that was attached to the residence of the accused,” he said.

“Police visited the home of Mr. Smith and examined his HP laptop. Also, they recovered a CV from Glasgow Caledonian University and an academic honors transcript.

“Multiple photographs relating the first witness were also recovered, as well as several files related to the second.

Sheriff Ray Small remanded his sentence to next month, while Devenport was allowed to continue with bail.

He stated that he had pled guilty for two completely unsatisfactory, and deplorable crimes. They will be handled in due course.

These are very serious issues, and I could send you to prison. However, I’ll keep my eyes open until I’ve read the reports.

Devenport was added to the list of sex offenders.
