Competitors from all around the world came to Germany to take part in a Beard Olympics and German Beard Championships for a facial hair face-off.
The contest was held in Eging am See in Lower Bavaria and attracted around 100 men with moustaches and beards. Competitors from the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Israel as well as Germany all took part.
The men were able to show off their whiskers in a range of categories including Dali, Muscateer and ‘natural’ for those who didn’t use any styling products to a jury of seven trained hairdressers and barbers.
They were assessed on both density and length, Dpa International reported.
The East Bavarian Beard and Moustache Club hosted the competition. The Beard Olympics is open to all but those throwing their hat into the ring for the German championship needed to be residents, or at least members of a club.
The club president Christian Feicht said: ‘Beard care is actually the most important thing. The more’material,’ the more you can style.
