After being charged with four child sexual offences, a Metropolitan Police officer will be appearing in court today.
Francois Olwage (51), Detective Constable, was taken into custody yesterday at an address in Basingstoke.
Following an investigation by Hertfordshire Police Olwage was indicted.
Basingstoke Magistrates Court will charge him with attempting sexual communication with a minor, attempting or inciting a girl between 13 and 15 to have sexual activity, arranging for or faciliting the commission of a child sexual offence, and meeting a girl younger than 16 years after grooming.

Olwage has been temporarily suspended. Scotland Yard stated that the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards was informed.
The matter was also referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Detective Chief Superintendent Donna Smith of the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards said that DC Olwage was arrested following a thorough investigation by detectives from Hertfordshire Police. We will continue to support them as their investigations continue.
“He was placed on administrative suspension following his arrest in connection with this serious and concerning offense. He was charged and will face criminal proceedings.
She also stated that it was important to avoid publishing anything that could be a danger to these proceedings.
