More than 900 foreign criminals, including robbers and murderers are currently on the loose in the UK

The Mail on Sunday has revealed that the Government has lost track more than 900 foreign criminals, including murderers, robbers and other sex offenders.

In just two years, the number of people who have disappeared has increased by more than 160. 

They have fled jails and prison vans, or disappeared after being released into the community.

Many of those on the run face deportation orders.

According to Freedom of Information laws, data from the Home Office shows that 916 foreign criminals have been listed as absconders. 

The list includes 16 rapists including child attackers and 20 sex offender, 53 robbers and 16 burglars, as well 53 violent criminals and murderers, as well 65 thieves.

One criminal escaped from prison 29 years ago. 547 other criminals fled prison in the last five year.

It is believed that Rezgar Zengana, 38, was among them. He posed as a taxi driver for private hire to pick up his victim of 25 years before raping her at a Glasgow house in 2006.

The Iraqi national was convicted, but fled before being sentenced.

Alp Mehmet, of Migration Watch UK, said the numbers were ‘shocking – the public have had enough’.

The Home Office stated: “We never give up trying trace absconders.”
