Mother says her Christmas was ruined by ‘cowboy’ Halfords worker who wrecked her Mercedes after damaging fuse box during £35 dash cam fitting

  • Sefia Rashid visited the White City Retail Park in Old Trafford to have a gadget installed.
  • A few days later, the heater in her Mercedes sixth-month-old Mercedes was gone.
  • According to mechanic, the issue was caused by Halfords mechanic damaging fuse box

One mother claims that her Christmas was destroyed by a Halfords worker. He damaged her Mercedes’ fusebox during a Dash Cam fitting.

Sefia Rashed went to the White City Retail Park in Old Trafford (Greater Manchester) on Monday, December 13th, to have the device installed.

The heater on Mercedes, six months old, died while on her way to Winter Wonderland. Her windows were left steamy and her children were frozen.

Ms Rashid claimed that the problem was discovered by an AA mechanic who ‘laughed at me, and asked ‘Who on Earth fitted your dashcam’?

Sefia Rashid's fuse box was damaged in a 'cowboy job' by a Halfords employee, according to an AA mechanic

An AA mechanic stated that Sefia’s fuse box had been damaged by an employee at Halfords in a cowboy task’.

According to Ms Rashid the mechanic claimed that the cowboy job had “buggered up” the fuse box.

She explained that he said the wires leading to the fuse looked like something a rat chewed.

It could have started a fire, or any other kind of problem. It wouldn’t be possible to continue driving if the heater had been broken. This is unacceptable.

Ms Rashid stated that her terrible experience started when she dropped her car off at Halfords to have a pre-booked one-hour slot for getting a dashcam fitted.

She stated that she called multiple times to confirm when her car was ready, and each time they told her it would take an additional half hour.

She had to take her kids to school so she drove to White City at 2.45pm. This was almost three hours after dropping off her Mercedes.

She arrived at the station to find a member staff still inside her car.

She was forced to arrange for a taxi ride to her friends’ schools so that her children could be picked up.

Ms Rashid said Halfords charged her £80 for the dash cam and £35 for the fitting.

However, she ended up spending over £70 on taxis, and missing out on Christmas experiences such as Winter Wonderland, as a result of the damage.

Halfords spokesperson said that they take customer service and services very seriously. They help thousands of people every week.

“On this occasion, we clearly fell short of our high standard and apologize for any inconvenience caused especially during the holiday period.

“We are happy to have come to a settlement with Ms Rashid. We will compensate her for the travel, remedial work and missed family events.
