M&S ‘diversity managers’ give staff pronoun badges so that customers know how to address them

Marks & Spencer has started giving out its staff pronoun badges as part of a recent diversity inclusivity initiative. 

The new tags can now  include the person’s name, and their chosen pronouns, options of which include: ‘He/Him/His’, ‘She/Her/Hers’, and ‘They/Them/Their’.

David Parke (Food PR Manager at the Brand) shared a picture of his badge on LinkedIn. In it, he stated that they’ve ‘helped begin some very needed conversations about gender identity and other non-binary experiences’.

Mr Parke said the inclusivity drive already 'helped start some very necessary conversations around gender identity and non-binary experiences'

Sasha Misra, associate director of communications and campaigns at Stonewall, told The Sun: ‘Having pronouns on badges is a simple yet impactful way to make sure LGBTQ+ identities are respected — for employees and customers alike.’

M&S said the move is a result of staff asking for the option to include gender pronouns on their name tags.

This post of Mr Parke was shared 2 weeks ago on International Pronouns Day. 

It said, “I’m so glad that Marks and Spencer encourages us all to use our pronouns in work, on our name tags or in our email signatures.”

“We introduced these badges a few month ago (a brilliant idea of a colleague which was then implemented Cleo, our LGBTQ+ Network and others.
