Novak Djokovic is a tennis champ who insists that his main reason for not committing to the Australian Open yet is because of the fear of being caught in a Covid-infected plane.
Djokovic, 34 years old, is believed to be vaccine hesitant following previous outspoken comments on the disease. However, he has never disclosed his vaccination status.
The world number 1 says he is unable to face 14 days in quarantine due to the possibility that another passenger on his aircraft could be Covid-positive.
He said, “The main problem is that if someone is positive on a plane, regardless of whether they’re vaccinated, you automatically stay at your room for 14 days.”
Viktor Troicki was in January that year. He was not the only one who had to be quarantined. I’ve spoken to many players, and that’s a terrible memory for everyone.

“So I don’t know if Australia is the right place for me. I don’t know what’s happening. The current situation is not very good.
The nine-time Australian Open champion has been caught at the centre of a political vaccination storm over the tournament.
Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of Canada, insists that all players are welcomed. Unvaccinated players will be held in hotel quarantine for 14 days.
However, Dan Andrews, the Victorian premier has pledged to block unjabbed state players and will not grant exemptions to allow them into the tournament.

Djokovic, president of The Professional Tennis Players Association, said that many players fear being put in quarantine for no reason.
“It wasn’t an enjoyable experience for us (in 2020). Viktor Troicki said that it was difficult for him.
‘Some of our team had the quarantine that allowed us to train. If a person is unable to train, to place a professional athlete under quarantine so he can’t leave the area and then expect him play at a certain level.
“Not to mention the increased injury risk, of which many were present at this year’s Australian Open.

‘If these conditions remain, I think many people will really think about whether or not to go.
“But, in the final, the financial or economic aspect of many players is the determining factor.”
Darren Cahill, Australian super-coach, said he sympathizes and supports Tennis Australia during the Open vaccination saga between political leaders.
Cahill said to SEN radio that he felt sorry for Australia and Craig Tiley’s teams, to be sincere.

Dan Andrews, Victorian premier, has vowed to ban unjabbed players out of the state and will not sign off exemptions that would allow them in for tournament.
“Clearly, they have gone to the federal government and received instructions that they would allow unvaccinated players into this country.
“Albeit they’d need to go through a couple weeks of quarantine before they could go to restaurants in Victoria, or go shopping – some pretty strict restrictions.
“And then Dan comes out and clearly states that only vaccinated people will be permitted to play at the Australian Open.
“So at least we have some clarity right now, but Tennis Australia has sort of been the meat sandwiches because they’ve been trying hard to inform the ATP/WTA about where they are.
“And at the very least, now you can go back and say, “Listen, that jab is not for you.”
