Oscar Pistorius, who has served half of his sentence in the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp is believed to be eligible for parole.
Before he can be released, the Paralympic gold medalist may meet his parents through South Africa’s “restorative justice” parole process.
After he shot four shots through his bedroom toilet door, he was found guilty of manslaughter in the murder of Steenkamp Valentine’s Day 2013.
He claimed he had mistaken Steenkamp, a 29-year-old model and law graduate who was famous in her own right in South Africa, for an intruder but was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to five years in prison.
In 2015, his sentence was raised to 13 years and 5 months. This was five months after Pistorius was convicted of murder. Pistorius has been released from Pretoria’s Low-Security Jail for six years.

South Africa’s correctional service stated that it was arranging a meeting between Steenkamp’s parents and Pistorius in the context of’restorative Justice’.
In the statement it was stated that offenders “must admit and take responsibility” and that each party must be given an opportunity to’reconciliation or an apology”.
Singabakho Nxumalo, spokesperson for the correctional services said that they were not yet ready to discuss possible paroles for Pistorius.

South Africa’s Department of Correctional Services stated in a statement that they would be setting up a meeting with Steenkamp and Pistorius (pictured), as part of their’restorative Justice’ process.
June Barry and Steenkamp’s parents told SABC by lawyer that they wanted to take part in the victim/offender dialogue.
“June” has said she forgiven Oscar for his actions, but that does not mean he should pay.
Tania Koen, lawyer said Barry fights with it a bit but that is something he will need to speak at the right time.
Pistorius does not have the right to parole and should be eligible for parole.
June said that Oscar had murdered her daughter, but she was sorry.
Reeva’s South African parents, Barry and June, were born in Blackburn, Lancashire.
According to a television channel, the couple said that Reeva had left her bag at home and informed Pistorius that she would be leaving on the night of Reeva’s death. He then killed her.
Pistorius became an international role model for those with disabilities by being the first amputee to compete in the Olympics.
Pistorius, a double amputee who competed in the Olympics 2012 London games became a role model worldwide for disabled people.
