Two teenage boys were stabbed to death in Essex over the weekend. Eight men are being held on suspicion of murder.
Friends and family were heartbroken to visit a temporary memorial in Brentwood earlier this morning for the two 16 year-olds, Frankie Gater, and Charlie.
Eight men aged 19-49 were stabbed at the weekend and detectives launched a double murder investigation. They are all from Essex, including five from Grays, two from South Ockendon, and one each from Brentwood.
Essex Police said officers were called to Regency Court at about 1.30am on Sunday and found three people had been injured, including two teenagers who later died from their injuries. The force also stated that the third person was treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Frankie and Frankie were both 16-years-olds who were’much loved’. Now, tributes are flooding in. cousin Charlie Gater writing on Facebook: “Words just can’t express how sorry I feel about your mom and dad Frankie.” Rest in paradise.
On Instagram, she added: “It’s physically causing pain I’ve lost cousin. It’s so hard to believe you’re gone. I feel like I’m in a terrible nightmare. Frankie Gater, we love you from all our families.
“Rest in perfect paradise. You made me laugh every time I saw you. Your smile lit up my soul every time I heard your name. Frankie Gater, you were one of a kind. I’m sorry you didn’t get to see the end of your life.
Another friend added, “Words can’t describe how I feel about the loss of my brother and you Frankie.

Police reported that three people were injured in an incident at Regency Court, Brentwood on Sunday morning. The force said that two of the victims have died and the third was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Charlie’s friend said that he would make you proud and that he would always think of him Charlie. Frankie and you were both so loved by everyone. We had our entire future planned together, and I’m going to do them just as you are with me.
A third victim was treated after the knifing. Police say that the injuries are not life-threatening.
Detectives are “working to establish how the boys were killed” and post-mortem examinations are planned. It is believed that the teens suffered from suspected stab wounds.
A neighbor at the scene claimed that he heard shouts from the scene and that someone was yelling in pain. He also claimed that he tried to warn police weeks before about anti-social behavior.
Mark MacIntosh said to reporters that there is a constant anti-social behavior, including drinking, drugs, shouting, and fighting. “I’ve heard people say, “I’m going out to kill him” up there.
“I’ve come down and broken up the knife fight down at bottom here before.” I realized that what I heard was someone shouting in pain, who may have lost his own life very soon afterwards.

Eight men, including two aged 49 and 40, were arrested on suspicion for murder. Detectives are still holding them.

Detective Superintendent Stephen Jennings stated that there was an altercation between two groups who ‘knew each others’ on Sunday.
Chief Inspector Mark Barber of the Essex Police said that the horrifying incident was ‘probably an attack on the victim’ and was an isolated one.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Stuart Truss, stated: “Our team continues to investigate the circumstances that led to two teenage boys tragically losing their lives in Brentwood in early Sunday morning.
“At the moment we are investigating many lines of inquiry which include assessing hours CCTV which shows the area in question. We have family liaison officers who are specially trained and continue to support the families of the boys.
“I also want to reiterate an appeal to anyone who was in Brentwood’s Crown Street area between 10pm Saturday and 5am Sunday morning to come forward to speak with us if they haven’t already.”

The scene of the crime was taped on Monday as police continued their meticulous investigation.

No matter how small the clues might be, officers lined up to search the pavement and roads for clues.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Clarkson, Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, was in charge of the investigation throughout the night.
He stated that the incident required an immediate and large-scale response. Officers and investigators worked through the night to determine what had happened leading up to the tragic incident.
“Our investigations will continue today. We are aware that there will be shock and concern among the community following such a tragic loss. At this point, however, we don’t believe there is any greater threat to public safety.
Chief Inspector Mark Barber stated that there would be a visible police presence in Brentwood throughout the day. I am acutely aware of the shock that this incident will cause in the community.

Forensic investigators are still in place and continue to search for evidence.

The street remains closed to pedestrians and traffic, except for residents of the nearby building.

Alex Burghart (Conservative MP for Brentwood/Ongar), stated that the community was in a’state shock’.
He stated that incidents such as these are not common in our area and that the deaths of two young boys in one night has caused us to be very upset. I understand the shock and grief that this will cause, but I want them to know that this is an isolated incident. Police will provide more police presence in the days ahead.
“There are no words to describe how awful this is, but my deepest condolences go out for the families and I know Brentwood will also be sending their sympathies.

The site was covered with a blue tent and police tape.
A spokesperson for Essex Police stated that they received several calls to Regency Court from colleagues in the ambulance service at around 1.30am.
“We arrived to find three people were injured. Two of the three victims have died, despite all the efforts of doctors. Specialist officers are supporting their families.
“We are trying to determine how the boys died, and a forensic after-mortem examination will take place.” The injuries sustained by the third victim were not life-threatening or life-threatening.
