Tours are an important part of the royal calendar. They allow the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s legendary’soft Power’ to open doors that aren’t normally open to politicians and diplomats.

But the royal family have had their wings clipped as a result of the Covid pandemic and this will be the first royal overseas tour for almost two years.

The duchess and prince are both double-jabbered and will most likely have had boosters by time the trip takes places. Charles’s trip to the UK is treated as a state visit, since the Queen no longer travels abroad.

Chris Fitzgerald, deputy private secretary to the prince, stated that climate change will be one of the major themes of his visit. Other topics include interfaith dialog, female empowerment, preservation of cultural heritage, and efforts for women empowerment.

Mr Fitzgerald stated that the first royal tour in nearly two years will be at a crucial moment in the UK’s relationship with both countries.

“Their royal highnesses will travel first to Jordan, where they will celebrate Jordan’s centenary and 100-year-old bilateral relationship between the UK and Jordan.

The visit of ‘Their royal highnesses to Egypt’ comes as the UK holds Cop presidency, and Egypt has been nominated for the Cop27 presidency in 2022.

“In this decisive decade of climate action, the next twelve months will see a significant cooperation between the UK and Egypt. Both visits will focus on the climate crisis.

The royal family has close ties with many of Middle East’s ruling families, including Jordan.

According to her husband the Duke of Cambridge the Duchess loved Jordan as a child and her father Michael, who was a British Airways manager at the time, moved to Amman to work in 1984 with his family.

Charles and Camilla will start their four-day visit to Jordan with the prince meeting humanitarian organizations he supports as patron. He will also highlight the nation’s role of sheltering more than six million registered Syrian refugees and over two million Palestinians.

Camilla will learn all about Queen Rania’s work in protecting mothers and children in need of protection. She will also take part in a Women of the World celebration, which promotes the empowerment of women.

Two confidants of Prince Hamzah, Jordan’s half-brother, were sentenced to 15 year imprisonment for plotting against the Western-allied monarchy.

Chris Fitzgerald, the deputy private secretary to Prince Charles, stated that climate change would be a major theme of their visit. Other issues would include interfaith dialogue, female empowerment, and efforts to preserve cultural history. Pictured, the royal couple in Egypt in 2006

Bassem Awadallah was once a senior aide to King Abdullah. Sharif Hassan bin Zaid (a member of the royal family) was also alleged to have conspired to Prince Hamzah. They were both found guilty in July for sedition and incitement.

The status of Prince Hamzah who was placed under house arrest is not known.

Highlights of the tour to Egypt include a UK-Egypt celebration celebrating the bond between the countries, which will be held overlooking the pyramids at Giza Plateau.

The royal couple will also be touring Alexandria, the ancient city.

Charles and Camilla will be visiting Cairo’s Grand Imam Al-Azhar, where they will have discussions about religious tolerance and how faith can help to protect the environment.
