Father-of-one Simon Bolton, 54, had worked at Zetland FM, based in Redcar, Teesside, since it launched in 2015, presenting programmes including its Monday sport show, Friday rock show and weekend breakfast segment.
Teesside Live reports that the man was discovered to be positive for Covid and taken to James Cook University Hospital Middlesbrough. Two days later, he died unexpectedly.
Joanne, his wife of 17-years, was 43. She said that the family wasn’t sure what caused him to die.
Paying tribute to her husband, who was father to 16-year-old Leyla, she said: ‘He was well-known by people. He could even talk for England, had an amazing gob!
“Being a radio broadcaster was his dream job. Radio Revivals was his love. He preferred the music that didn’t get played.
We don’t know if Bolton has been immunized.
His death comes just one year after another Zetland FM presenter, Julie Donaldson, died after battling Covid-19 in intensive care.

He died one year ago, just after Julie Donaldson, another ZetlandFM presenter, had succumbed to Covid-19 while in intensive care. John Donaldson had stated that Mrs Donaldson’s heart was unable to withstand the stress her deteriorating lung caused by the illness. He admitted his wife to the hospital in October 2020.

John Donaldson, Mrs Donaldson’s husband had stated that his wife’s heart could not withstand the strain her deteriorating lungs put on it after she was admitted in October 2020 with this terrible disease.
Zetland FM said in a statement later that month that Mrs Donaldson, who presented the ‘Morning Mix’, was ‘exceptional’ at her job and a ‘hugely valued colleague and a friend’.

According to the station, Simon was also an avid film-fan, especially Star Wars, and enjoyed many films while he was a frequent customer of the Regent Cinema Redcar.
Simon was suffering from serious health problems in recent years and had to work hard at recording his Zetland FM weekday programme at home in Redcar.
All his friends, colleagues and listeners will miss Simon. We send our deepest condolences and sympathies to Joanne and Leyla and their families.
Bolton loved The Beatles and would try to get a song from them on his shows.
Redcar-born, he attended Sacred Heart School 1979-1984. He organized a reunion in 2017 for his former classmates.
He was also a long-standing fan of Middlesbrough Football Club.
