Robin Le Mesurier, a guitarist who was well-known for his work with Rod Stewart and Johnny Hallyday, has passed away at the age 68 after he lost his battle against cancer.
Friends of Rod Stewart announced yesterday that the British musician died. He was an original member of The Wombles, a pop-rock group.
Six years ago, Le Mesurier was joined by fellow rockers Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood for the Faces Reunion Tour in 2015. This tour took place more than 40 year after the band had announced their dissolution.
Le Mesurier was born to John Le Mesurier star in Dad’s Army and Hattie Jean Jacques actress in Carry On in London.

Reign was his first band. However, after the promise to a record deal fell through the band broke up in 1973. The musician then joined Mike Batt’s The Wombles as a singer-songwriter, which brought him the breakthrough he had been seeking.
Le Mesurier sported a fake fur outfit alongside his fellow band members to create a pop-rock group that was inspired in part by Elisabeth Beresford’s children’s series.

Le Mesurier was born in 1952. He was the son John Le Mesurier of Dad’s Army (pictured), and Hattie Jacques, a Carry On actress.

According to him, “Going on tour together with the bands was almost like going on vacation with your closest friends. We did some shows there and then.”
“I feel lucky to have grew up during a period when there was such diversity in music and have the privilege of working with two great singers. Both of them are great friends to me.
In 2015, the guitarist joined fellow rockers Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones, for their much-anticipated Faces reunion tour.
Two years later, in 2017, Le Mesurier penned a tell-all book about his life and his adventures in the music industry entitled ‘A Charmed Rock ‘n’ Roll Life’.
Following the star’s death yesterday, rock musician Rod Stewart, took to social media to pay tribute to the rocker, writing: ‘A rock & roll soul, rest in peace my dear friend.’
Julian Lennon wrote, “Heartbroken” to the death of Robin Le Mesurier, his dear friend and Beatles singer John Lennon.
