After being raped, the mother of 12-year old girl took her own life. She recalled that her daughter had ‘broken down and cut her all over before she revealed she had been sexually assaulted.
Semina Halliwell of Southport died June 12, after she spent four nights in the hospital.
Her mother, Rachel Halliwell, claimed her daughter was left ‘traumatised’ by a torrent of online and physical abuse following the alleged sexual offence by a boy of a similar age on February 25.
Appearing on BBC Three documentary, Zara McDermott: Uncovering Rape Culture, Rachel claimed that Semina had self-harmed ‘all over her body’ before telling her mother she had been sexually assaulted.
She claimed that Semina was coerced into sending explicit photographs online and that her alleged rapist was putting so much pressure on her she eventually ‘gave in’ and met him.

Semina Halliwell, from Southport, died on June 12 of this year, after spending four nights in hospital after allegedly being raped by a boy of a similar age
Rachel explained that Rachel knew there was much more going on than she realized. Rachel said that something happened to make her unhappy.
“It was just before Mother’s Day, and she entered the bedroom. She cut her entire body. It was unbelievable to me what she was showing me. It was so shocking that she just broke down.
Semina said that she was under immense pressure when it began, and the messages started to go online. She also stated that “He pecked me so hard that I gave up in the end.” This is a huge amount for a young girl.
The police are currently investigating and there has not been any confirmation of the cause. The alleged rapist has denied the crime and no DNA evidence was found.
Trinity, a friend of the 12-year-old, said that Semina ‘thought that no one believed her’ and that it was ‘all her fault’ after reporting the alleged crime to police.

She stated, “She believed no one believed in her.” We knew it was true and the family believed her. It was more that she felt helpless and unable to make a difference. [she thought]It was her fault.
Rachel says that Semina was ‘very funny, very bubbly and very chatty’ before the alleged rape and barrage of abuse from her peers.
She said, “Then everything changed.” “She used social media a lot in her everyday life, and she was on her phone all the time. She would respond to a question like “What’re you doing on your phone?” “I’m talking with my friends. I don’t understand it.”
Trinity, Semina’s best friend said that there was never a time when she didn’t have her phone. Social media, when you are young, is something you own. It’s also the first adult thing that you can do.

Rachel claims that Semina, pictured (pictured), was “very funny,” “very bubbly,” and “very chatty” before she was accused of rape.
“Social media is a positive thing, but it also has a darker side.
You’ll use Snapchat to post a photo of yourself with friends. Boys will start asking you for sex.
“You don’t say yes, but they keep pressing you. They basically call you boring and frigid, saying they don’t want you to talk to them.
Semina suffered two physical attacks in Southport’s parks, Merseyside. This was a month following the April incident.

Rachel (pictured), claimed Semina had self hurt ‘all over’ her body before she told her mother that Semina was sex assaulted during the emotional interview
Rachel captured shocking footage at that time, showing her daughter being kicked, punched, and then dragged across the floor by a group girls.
Semina took her own life in September, and Rachel said that ‘no parent’ should ever have to go through the horrendous pain of losing a child.
“Semina attempted to end her life. After being in the hospital for several days, they placed her in a coma. “Then on Saturday, when she was in hospital, I took her by the hand. She just disappeared, nothing could be done.
Nobody thinks that they might lose a child. It should never happen to a parent.
