24-hours in police custody viewers caught a baby killer crying out of his pain while being held responsible for the murder of his 12-week-old girlfriend.

Kane Mitchell, 31 years old, of St Neots (Cambridgeshire), was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for killing baby Teddie. Teddie died after 10 days of life support.

At the Cambridge Crown Court, Teddie suffered four weeks of injuries. He was ‘grabbed hard’, shaken vigorously, and had his head smashed against a hard surface.

Teddie, his baby brother, died from 17 broken ribs and fractures of his skull and collarbone. He also suffered bleeds on his brain and spinal damage.

Mitchell was in a relationship for eight months with Teddie Smith’s mother Lucci, 30. They lived together.

This horrifying footage was captured by Channel 4’s 24 Hours of Police Custody. It shows how the killer begins to cry out as he gets arrested.

Meanwhile footage also showed Smith being asked by detectives how her son suffered such horrific injuries and she simply replied ‘no idea’.

She then went on to say she would tell police if there had been any violence toward Teddie because, ‘he’s my son at the end of the day and he means more to me than anybody’.

It was discovered that the Cambridgeshire Police and social services had been alerted by concerned neighbours several weeks prior to Teddie’s death.

Many people who watched the program were made sick by their respective actions. One viewer commented that “even him crying to police sounds fake and forced.”

Footage from just before Mitchell’s arrest showed him holding his victim in hospital while he sobbed and said: ‘Come on baby, Daddy’s here.’

On November 1, 2019, at 3:00pm, the ambulance crew was dispatched to Pattison Court in St Neots. Teddie was unresponsive and was suffering from cardiac arrest.

Smith left Teddie with Mitchell while Mitchell did her morning school run.

Many of those watching the programme were left 'sickened' by the behaviour of both, with one viewer commenting: 'Even him crying to the police sounds so fake and forced'

Detective Inspector Lucy Thompson stated that Mitchell was completely without remorse and empathy. That’s what I find most difficult about him.

“It’s all Kane and nothing about Teddie.”

This clip shows Mitchell pretending to father Teddie in hospital and was then arrested.

He said: ‘I don’t f***** think so. O my God! I’d never harm a baby. I won’t leave my son.

Because of the type of injuries that were suffered, officers could prove Mitchell had murdered Teddie.

Teddie died as a result of his fractured skull and lack of oxygen to the brain.

Staff at the hospital were worried about Teddie’s injuries. Mitchell, Smith and Smith were all arrested.

The jury at Cambridge Crown Court heard Teddie’s story of abuse and neglect during Teddie’s short time with Kane Mitchell. Mitchell is not Teddie’s biological father.

The Express was informed by a spokesperson for the council that a serious case review has begun and that results should be available later in the year. We can’t comment on it until it is published.

Teddie was killed by Teddie Thompson’s mother, Ms. Thompson. She said that Teddie died at the hands of someone who ought to have protected him.

“Our investigation over a year revealed that Teddie suffered numerous horrific injuries in his short time on earth, something neither Mitchell nor Smith were able to explain.

“The Show highlights our determination to find those guilty of such horrible crimes and bring them to justice.

“We hope this will motivate anyone with concerns regarding a child’s well-being to get in touch immediately.

Witnesses from nearby homes gave statements to the jury that they’d heard arguments from the home on a regular basis. They also stated that Mitchell had lived in the same house since he moved in.

Mitchell claimed that Teddie is his biological father in a police interview.

But DNA tests following his death showed that he wasn’t.

Additional footage of the television programme revealed that police officers monitored Teddie and Teddie while Teddie was in the hospital before making their arrests.

In February, Mitchell was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court to minimum 18 years imprisonment.

Smith was found guilty after failing to call 999 for over half an hour, despite being urged by her GP.

Many people who watched the program were horrified at the behavior of the couple.

One user posted this online: “Is it terrible to admit that I believe the father’s crying was fake?”

Another writer wrote, ‘Even his “crying” to the police sounds too fake and forced.

“I am sick to my stomach.”

“Can’t help but shake my head at these lies.”

His death is reminiscent of the injuries which killed 16-month-old Star Hobson who was murdered by Savannah Brockhill, 28, the girlfriend of her mother Frankie Smith.

Mrs Justice Lambert claimed that Star was injured by the “fatal punch” or kick she received. Star lost half of her blood and her internal organs were damaged.

Brockhill was sentenced to 25 years in prison for Star’s murder, while Smith was given eight years because she did nothing.

Mrs Justice Lambert stated: Frankie Smith. It was your duty to protect Star. But you did not protect Star and allowed her to die.

“The force necessary to cause these injuries must be immense – comparable to forces involved in a road accident.”
