Jill Biden, First Lady, kicks off the holiday season by presenting a new special that provides a behind-the scenes look at the First Family’s Thanksgiving traditions, including her grandmother’s savory stuffing recipe. 

The 70-year-old has teamed up with country music star Trisha Yearwood for ‘A White House Thanksgiving,’ which is slated to air on Food Network and Discovery Plus on November 20, Variety reports.  

‘Food is love — and gathering together this year for Thanksgiving is healing for our hearts,’ Dr. Biden said in a statement. “The family recipes, the traditions passed down through the generations, and the meaningful blessings that continue to be shared keep me filled with gratitude.

During the upcoming special, Dr. Biden and Yearwood, 57, will create a tablescape made with fresh flowers from the White House Kitchen Garden and prepare beloved recipes.   

The first lady’s stuffing — handed down from her grandmother — is on the menu, as is the country superstar’s favorite turkey gravy. 

The pair will be also be joined by a number of White House employees, including White House chief floral designer Hedieh Ghaffaria, who will help make the floral and table décor.

According to the recipe shared with The Washington Post, the turkey is required to soak in brine featuring thyme, peppercorns, and light brown sugar for 12 hours.

Comerford was brought into the White House as an assistant chef in 1995 and has served under the Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations.  

Susan Morrison, White House executive pastry chef, will prepare a White House Apple Crisp. The dessert is topped by President Joe Biden’s favorite flavor of ice cream, chocolate chip.   

Dr. Biden stated in her statement that it was fun to open up the White House to Food Network, learn cooking tips from Trisha, the White House chefs, and florist, and share my family recipes. 

‘I hope everyone watching comes away feeling that cooking a Thanksgiving meal is something anyone can do, but if you’re still nervous about making the gravy, like I am, you’re in good company!’ 

Variety reports that ‘strict COVID-19 protocols aligned with CDC guidance’ were followed during the taping.

The special aims are to provide ‘a rarely-seen glimpse at holiday entertaining at the White House,’ said Food Network president Courtney White.  

Yearwood shared a message about unity in her statement: “Food brings us all together. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at The White House, where I was able to cook with Dr. Jill and other White House chefs and share our holiday food traditions.

She added, “I hope this special is an opportunity to remind us all about what we have in common.” “Love one other.”

Dr. Biden is not afraid to cook in front of an audience. Earlier this week, she tried her hand at making pasta at a culinary class in Naples, Italy. 

The first lady donned an apron, rubber gloves, and a hat when she joined the lesson at Naples Middle High School. This school is a U.S. Defense Department school. Naval Support Activity Naples military bases.  

Dr. Biden said, “I’m used Italian cooking,” and that her grandfather and grandmother were both Italian. 

She recalled her grandmother’s cooking skills and how the noodles would hang in her kitchen.  

She noted that she used to make homemade pasta for dinner all the time.

Dr. Biden arrived in Naples on Monday afternoon after splitting off from her husband, President Biden, who traveled to Scotland to participate in the COP26 climate summit.
