It’s been a busy few months for Princess Diana actress Elizabeth Debicki. She was spotted filming scenes for series five, The Crown today.

Elizabeth, 31, stunned wearing a matching skirt and a lilac coat. This outfit is thought to have been inspired by a similar outfit worn in June 1997 by Princess of Wales. It was one of her last public appearances prior to her tragic death in a Paris car accident.

The Australian actress, who is taking over the role from Emma Corrin, was joined on location by actor Salim Daw, who is playing  Mohammed Al Fayed in the series, the former Harrods owner and father of Diana’s lover Dodi.

The scene showed the pair taking their seats at what appeared was a polo match. It is not clear what scene was being shot for the hit drama. However, Diana was spotted talking with Mohammed on numerous occasions at the Polo, including meetings in 1987 as well as 1988.

However, The Crown will be covering the Royal Family’s history through the 1990s. It’s not clear if the Netflix series has changed timelines. 

The Netflix hit The Crown has been known for its ability to bend facts to suit its narrative. While some artistic license is normal, some critics have expressed outrage at the rewriting and altering of history and relationships.

Meanwhile  Dodi Fayed is expected to play a large part in the next series of The Crown, with British actor Khalid Abdalla, 39, who starred in the 2007 film The Kite Runner, cast in the role.

Palestinian actor Salim, 70, will play Dodi’s father, former Harrods owner Mohamed.

There are many moving moments that could be used. The Queen gave a speech on the 40th anniversary her accession in 1992 in which she called the year an ‘annus horriblis’. 

She was referring the to the end of three of her children’s marriages: Prince Andrew’s, Princess Anne’s, and Prince Charles’s divorce from Princess Diana.

Lesley Manville (64), who will play Princess Margaret, is also joining The Crown series five. Jonathan Pryce, 73 will assume the role as Prince Philip. James Murray will play the role of Prince Andrew in place of Tom Byrne who was the Queen’s second-born son in series four.
