Today, the city’s centre witnessed thousands of Muslims celebrating Eid with colourful costumes, food sharing and comedy at London’s Trafalgar Square.
They celebrated Ramadan’s ending, also known by the ‘Holiday of Breaking the Fast,’ after fasting for a month before Shawall. Shawall’s timing varies depending on the new moon, and it fell on May 1.
Sadiq Khan (London Mayor) stated that celebrating Ramadan ends with Londoners and people from all walks of life demonstrates how London’s diversity is London’s greatest strength.
“In London we do not tolerate diversity. We celebrate it.”
Presenter Mistah Islah of BBC Asian Network and Mehreen Baig, a broadcaster, hosted acts at the Main Stage. A mix of contemporary and traditional acts.
