Tinder, the most downloaded dating app in the world, has been downloaded over 450,000,000 times since its launch back in 2012.

App uses location-based technology that connects people with their profiles based upon the gender, distance, or orientation filters they have set.

To swipe right, users can click on any profile to see what they think of it. Or they can leave if they don’t like it.

Both users can swipe right to each other and it becomes a match. Then they can start messaging within Tinder.

Tinder doesn’t require users to connect online to find matches, however, it revealed its busiest days are January 2nd and peak hours between 7pm and 10 pm.

Laura Wilkinson Rea, Director, Communications UK, and Director, Comms Nordics, at Tinder, says that “With more than 430 million downloaded matches and over 60+ billion matches, singles know what they want and can find it in a match.”

WHAT CAN I DO TO CONTACT IF YOUR CATFISHED?

Online dating apps are full of fraudulent profiles known as “catfishes”.

‘Catfishing’ originated as a term for the process of luring people into false relationships, however, it has also come to encompass people giving out false information about themselves more generally.

Many profiles use photos of someone else to make it appear they are dating or to scam money.

Fortunately, there are certain ways to check if these profiles are real people or if they are bogus accounts —

1. Google Reverse Image Search

You can use Google to find this tool, which is the best for finding a catfish.

To kickstart the process, people need only right-click the photos that are arousing their suspcions, copy the URL and paste it into images.google.com.

Search engines will check to determine if an image is already used elsewhere.

You may have met a catfish if you see a picture of someone else in your profile photo.

2. Veracity app is available.

This is great for Tinder, Bumble and Grindr dating websites because it lets images from Dropbox and Camera roll (or other similar sites) be cross-referenced with any matches.

To launch the search, load the app and take a picture of suspicious dating apps profile.

You can see if it belongs to someone else using the app.

3. You can check their Facebook page

Nearly everyone with a profile in a dating website will have a Facebook page. Most dating apps require that users have one. It is a good idea to search for potential partners on social media.

4. These are Googleable

Google and the other search engines offer a large selection of search results, so most people are likely to be found in searches.

In this day and age, it’s unusual for someone to have nothing on Google.

Have a search through for them or their relatives, things they’ve said or posted in the past. If there’s nothing, that should raise alarm bells.

5. Video Chat via Skype/Facetime/Video chat

It is important to see the faces of people you’re talking about in order to make a romantic proposal.

6.  Money

Frauds are likely to target anyone who requests money online or through an app.

It is likely a fraud and you should immediately report it.
