Toddler dies in Zebra Crossing ‘hit and run’ Horror outside Primary School: Man, 24 years old is charged with causing death via dangerous driving

One toddler died after being struck on the zebra crossing near her primary school.   

The Ford Galaxy, a 7-seat silver Ford Galaxy, struck the girl just before 2:40pm. 

A 24-year-old male was taken into custody for causing the death of dangerous driving and the vehicle failed to stop on the spot.

A Ford Galaxy was found nearby by police officers. The Midlands Air Ambulance arrived on Reddings Lane to assist the family. They found the child with severe injuries. 

Shortly after arriving at Birmingham Children’s Hospital she was killed.

The three-year-old girl was hit by the seven-seater, silver Ford Galaxy car in Birmingham’s West Midlands, just before 2:40 today. The scene was also covered by a scooter. 

The car (pictured) failed to stop at the scene of the accident and a 24-year-old man was later arrested and taken in for questioning on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

Police were seen recovering a Ford Galaxy located nearby. Emergency services, including the Midlands air ambulance, descended on Reddings Lane where the youngster, who was with her family, was found with serious injuries

The Ford Galaxy, which was found nearby by officers, was taken to the police station. The Midlands Air Ambulance arrived on Reddings Lane to assist the family. They found the child with severe injuries.

Police forensics teams continue to search for clues and a portion of Reddings Lane is currently closed off in the Tyseley region. 

The scooter of a child could be found near the pedestrian crossing where yellow evidence markers have been placed.

One witness posted on Facebook: “It wasn’t a racer. The girl died after the seven-seater was completed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family. 

According to a West Midlands Police spokesperson, the victim was crossing a zebra when she was struck by the silver Ford Galaxy. This happened just before 2.40 p.m. today. 

“The car driver failed to pull over at the crosswalk, but officers took quick witness statements and quickly arrested the 24-year-old suspect for causing death through dangerous driving. After locating the vehicle, they also found the man’s vehicle.

The wing mirror of the car recovered by police had snapped off

Police had taken off the wing mirror from the vehicle.

“The tragedy occurred when the girl’s entire family was with her.”

Paul Hughes from the serious collision investigation section of West Midlands Police said that the tragic loss of such a young girl is very saddening. We are thinking of the family and sending our condolences at this very distressing moment. 

“Our first priority is to support her family, and ensure that an investigation is done thoroughly. We can understand the fear and shock caused by this and urge people to not speculate. 

“I am interested in hearing from anybody who may have been on Reddings Lane, or within the immediate area and saw the collision.  

The road remained closed this evening as an investigation into the death continued

This evening, an investigation into the death was continuing so that the roads remained closed.

West Midland Ambulance Service spokesmen confirmed the following: “We were called this afternoon at 2.38pm to report a collision between car and pedestrian. 

“We sent two ambulances: a paramedic, the Midlands Air Ambulance critical care car and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford. 

“On our arrival we found one child, who was the patient,” The children were taken by ambulance to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
