After seeing signs at stairs of a hospital listing the calories consumed for each step, a Twitter user shared her dismay.
Amanda LynchYesterday, she took to social media to express her shock and to show photos of stickers that were apparently stuck to the steps at Tallaght Hospital in Ireland.
“Wow!” she wrote. These are the stairs to the children’s ward in Tallaght Hospital! WTF! Absolutely no need for this in a hospital! Especially for kids.’
Others agreed with Amanda, sharing their alarm at the posters, while some suggested they were good for ‘motivation’ and that the stairs were mostly only intended to be used by the staff.
Several Twitter users also noted that Tallaght Hospital is not the only hospital to use the signs, which show the number of calories burned after several steps.

MailOnline has contacted Tallaght Hospital for comment.
On the thread, one user wrote: “What is that?!?” Outrageous. It is outrageous. It is not essential.
Another person said, “It is such a slippery slope.” This language is not appropriate for children, and I don’t see how it can be used in such a setting.
A third added: ‘Nope I wouldn’t be happy with that,’ while a fourth wrote: ‘That’s really inappropriate.’

Reaction
Amanda used her Twitter to tag Bodywhys (the Eating Disorders Association of Ireland), which provides support for people with eating disorders including their family members.
MailOnline has reached out to Bodywhys regarding a comment.
Some people weren’t as upset by the signs. One person wrote: “To be fair kids aren’t reading that.” This is a motivational sign.
Another commented: “It is an initiative, I think to climb the stairs…” There is nothing wrong with that… perhaps it’s just for staff members or adults?
Another Twitter user laughed: “I hear they also promote diet and exercise at these locations… omg.’

Others suggested that they could be used to motivate staff members, but the staircase was primarily intended for their use by them.
