After a man was found with bite marks on his body, South African villagers fear that a wolf is roaming the region. Police blame wild dogs.

  • Diesel Michael Makambi was last month found shot to death near Kwaqongqota’s river.
  • Residents in South Africa are afraid that the werewolf may be behind their incident
  • His family denied the rumours, saying that he was attacked by pitbulls.

A South African village is worried about a werewolf that roams the streets and caused the death of a man in October. The victim was found with bite marks near a river.

Diesel Michael Makambi was 59 years old when he died near Kwaqongqota Village’s Buffalo River. Qonce, his family, and others denounced the claim that Makambi had been killed by a mythical creature.

Three pitbulls had attacked him, and they begged the locals to stop believing werewolf rumours.

The Eastern Cape police said that Makambi, who was laid to rest this weekend, had been bitten by wild animals, according witnesses.

But villagers are still terrified of a wild werewolf and have shared posts on social media alerting others to stay away from Kwaqongqota.

Qonce’s running club warned members to not jog in the vicinity of the werewolf until it was killed or captured.

A sketch of a man who resembles a wolf was also posted. It can be found online.

Mr Makambi’s mother, 96-year-old Nongenile Liziwe Makambi, told News24: ‘Before he passed on, he managed to tell the boys that he was attacked by three dogs and pleaded for help.

“We were told that my son was being attacked by dogs by a woman. She screamed for help but it was too late by the time we got to the boys.

“The dogs tore apart my son.”

According to a spokesperson, Ndevana police established a murder docket for his investigation following his death.

Kholiwe Faku, an ANC councillor elect, urged Kwaqongqota residents not to spread werewolf myths. He said that Mr Makambi had been killed by pitbulls in a neighboring town.

She said, “People need to understand the grief of a loved one. Therefore we should be sensitive in what we say.”

“People should not spread the myth of the werewolf, because it can cause family turmoil. There is not a werewolf.
