The most haunted roads in Britain have been revealed, from a ghostly hitchhiking bride who disappears as soon as she gets into your car to a demon-dog from the underworld.
Among the list of paranormal hotspots, compiled by Goodbye Car, is ‘The Devil’s Highway’ near Bolton and Blue Bell Hill in Kent, where the tragic death of three young women in the 60s sparked rumours of ghosts haunting the area.
Elsewhere the police have recorded calls from drivers that describe having run over an old man in a tweed suit who they claim was crossing the road. The man was not found when police went out to investigate.

The Devil’s Highway

There have been a number of sightings of a shady figure at the side of the road on the A666 Near Bolton, often referred to as The Devil’s Highway
This stretch of road is sometimes called the Devil’s Highway due to its high accident rate and Biblical associations with the number 666. Many drivers have reported paranormal occurrences along this stretch.
Eyewitnesses describe a shady looking figure that appears at the side of the road after sunset. It is described as having a slight limp and hunched over.
Even a dashcam footage has been circulated online showing the white figure approaching slowly the car, much to the dismay of the driver and their passengers.

The A75 is just over the border from England and Scotland and links Gretna and Annan. It is known for being extremely poorly lit. Many believe they have seen ghosts there.

The A229 in Kent was the scene of an unfortunate tragedy back in November 1965 when three young woman and locals believe the ghost of a bride-to-be lurks in the area

Despite the bride-to-be dying in hospital days later, many believe that her ghost haunts the road, with spiritual believers often gathering outside the Lower Bell pub nearby.
Since then, the woman has been spotted wearing her extravagant wedding dress, veil and all, standing by the side of the road waiting for a lift – with some eye witnesses claiming to have let a woman inside their car only for her to disappear completely soon after.

Stocksbridge bypass is a relatively new road, compared to others on the list. This road quickly gained a reputation in the paranormal world. The M1 connects to the A1616. The paranormal shenanigans began immediately after the construction work started.
When construction was underway back in 1988, two security guards reported that they saw some young children playing right in the centre of the construction site, claiming the children disappeared without a trace as the guards approached them, with no signs of footprints.
M6 Bermuda Triangle

Junctions 16-19 of M6 have seen sightings of tormented souls, including vanishing hitchhikers or dubious eyes gazing at you through a nearby bush.
Named after Bermuda Triangle, the route is prone to accidents and has been around for two thousand years.
What is now the M6 used to be travelled across by the Roman’s before the layers of concrete were added, and as such there have been numerous reports of Roman soldiers marching across the road.
Sightings of tormented souls including vanishing hitchhikers and dubious eyes glaring at you from a nearby bush have been spotted throughout junctions 16-19 of the motorway.

The building dates back to 1585, and became famous thanks to Dick Turpin’s father reportedly being the landlord of the pub while the Inn gets its name from a Spanish Ambassador who used to meet with King James in the 16th Century.
In the 17th century, there were also two Spanish landlords named Francesco or Juan. Rumours say that they fell out and ended up with Juan being killed by Francesco in a duel. Juan was later buried near the Inn.
Reports have suggested that Juan’s ghost still haunts the pub and nearby roads looking for Francesco to claim his revenge.

The White Lady of Overtoun, the ghost of John White’s wife, is believed to haunt the bridge on the grounds at Overtoun House in West Dumbartonshire.
After the death her husband, she is said have been overcome with grief and jumped off the bridge. There her spirit is believed to still linger.
Witnesses claim that the bridge is particularly dangerous for dogs, as they can fall off the bridge. It’s said that more than 300 dogs have suffered this fate over the years.
Blairgowrie

The Hellhound, a dog of the underworld, is said to be causing pain to the A93 just north the Scottish town Blairgowrie.
This stretch of road lies north of Blairgowrie in Scotland. It is said that the Hellhound of Blairgowrie has been causing severe pain.
The animal is believed be from the underworld and has glowing red eyes and a stinking odour. He patrols the road, frightening dogs and horses at night.
There’s even a legend that says you’ll die if you stare directly into the Hellhound’s eyes three times.
Platt Lane

Locals call it “Platt Lane” in Westhoughton. It is another road that has a rich history of ghost sightings, and a tragic story of death.
Locals are familiar with Platt Lane, a road that is famous for its hauntings and tragic tale of death.
The Pretoria Pit mining disaster on 21st December 1910 led to the deaths of 344 of the 900 men and boys after gas leak from a broken lamp ignited into an explosion, with victims dying from flames or suffocation.
Now it’s been said that when you drive along Platt Lane you can see the eyes of the miners watching on from the bushes.

Paranormal believers believe that the A21 in the south east is haunted. Gracious Lane, who was angry at the road’s conversion to a duel carriageway, haunts the road.
