One mother laughed so hard that she couldn’t contain herself when her son, five years old, displayed his “Chandler Bing smile” on his school picture.

Clare Southern (33), described her exaggerated laughter when Jacob’s teacher handed Jacob’s photograph at Willows Primary School, Wythenshawe in Manchester, on November 9. 

Five-year-old snapped smiling easily and showing his full smile for Year One’s first school photo.

The mother of the schoolboy soon noticed her son’s funny resemblance. to the Friends character Chandler Bing, played by actor Matthew Perry, who in one iconic episode is known for pulling a similar face when posing for his engagement picture. 

Ms. Southern later shared Jacob’s hilarious grimace on social media, saying she wasn’t sure if Jacob was actually genuinely smiling or being scared by the picture.

They said that she’d had A copy was purchased to display proudly on the mantelpiece and for her to show to all when her son turns 18.   

According to the craft owner: “Yesterday was the first day we were able to get out of isolation. We all received Covid and it has cheered us up.

“Jacob was thrilled to see his picture after he got out of school.

“We could see the teacher at the front laughing so I knew it would be funny. We laughed when he passed it on to us, his nanna.

“Our first thought was Chandler Bing, from Friends.” 

She also said that ‘we still don’t know if the boy is scared because this is his first photo at school, or if it is genuine fear.

He is a cheeky boy, and has been well-known for his smirks.

“We don’t buy school photographs because they can be very expensive. But this picture is going to go on the mantelpiece. It will also make a great gift for your 18th birthday.

Ms. Southern posted a funny photo of her son to social media this week and shared it with other people. “I rarely buy school pictures, but I have found this photo to be so inspiring today. This is a great gift idea for your 18th birthday.
